recycle e-waste project

educating the youth and getting the community involved

In a bid to expand our service to the community, spread the word that e-waste can be recycled and make e-waste recycling more accessible to all, ECYCLE is cooperating with schools and churches through the recycle e-waste project by:

1. providing a free recycling service for school e-waste

2. supporting school recycling projects and encouraging learners to take an active role in caring for the environment by participating in a recycling project

3. assisting in the education about the recycling of e-waste

A case-study: Kenridge Primary, Durbanville

In November 2009 Kenridge Primary joined the recycle e-waste project. It started with the collection of the schools own e-waste (mostly old computers, monitors and printers). For several years Kenridge Primary has been running its own recycling project with a drop-off-point for paper, glass bottles and tins. With the help of the recycle e-waste project Kenridge Primary is now able to offer another drop-off-point for e-waste which means that learners, their families and the staff have been provided with the opportunity to responsibly recycle e-waste. As soon as the e-waste collection point needs clearing, Kenridge Primary notifies ECYCLE and we collect the e-waste within approximately 2 working days. Kenridge Primary is advertised on the ECYCLE website as a partner in the recycle e-waste project, in that way making their environmental commitment public knowledge.

How to get involved

By joining the recycle e-waste project schools can make the wonderful service of free e-waste recycling available to learners, their families and staff, thereby providing them with the opportunity to dispose of e-waste in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner. Your support will make a massive difference to the environment which in turn will be a sure benefit to your community and mother nature will thank you!
